Vernon is a 19 year old young man who is blind, deaf and mute. He lost each of these senses at separate times and before learning how to compensate for each loss. Vernon suffered from childhood birth defects and a tragic accident which caused the horrible combination of physical handicaps. Without any forms of communication, Vernon is literally in his own world. Touch and smell are very much intact with Vernon and he uses them for his enjoyment and what little communication he has. He enjoys the feel of water on his hands and the sun on his face. He smells anything he can to help identify what it is. Touching someone's hand is the only way he knows how to identify someone he's met before. A typical day for Vernon would be going to a special school where they try and teach him forms of communication and motor skills. He then rides the bus to the Marriott food service at the air port where he learns to put small trays onto big trays before food is placed in them. All the other time is spent at home with family and church on Sundays where the family prays for a miracle.
